Shown here are some of the fin series that are going into production or have not yet been considered, so they are currently only available as customs.

We are also going to be showing the designs that are in testing this winter in this section for those interested in what we are working on for the future.

DV8 Series

The DV8 fin series represent the very latest fins we have been working on this WINTER '18, here in Hawai'i!

These designs ae best described as more wing-like than your regular fin. By going with a shape more like a wing the fin is able to contribute a lot more to performance than simply serving as a rudder. These fins actually generate a significant amount of lift (just like a wing) that results in forward propulsion, hence more speed!

The design also incorporates a bend in the tip of the fin much like many of our flip tip fins we have been doing for a while now. The big difference with the tips on these new designs is that the flips are significantly longer. For some of the templates as much as half the height of the fin is flipped. This results is a design that is effectively two fins in one, the bottom portion of the fin is used to drive the board forward and into turns, while the tip drives the board through the remainder of the turn and out, when the board is on the rail. The average angle of the flip is around 14º, but varies depending on the size of the fin, the flip is outward.

All of the designs incorporate a very strong version of our hollow foil on the inside of the fin, both in the bottom section and in the flipped tip. These hollow foils add a significant amount to the overall performance of the fin and have to be tried to believe.

The DV8 range of designs is very extensive with a lot of different templates available, starting with small canard-style fins going all the way to a 5.50" tall back fin (or front in a regular quad setup). One unique aspect of all the back fins in the range is that regardless of the height they all have the flip starting at the same height up from the base. So as the fins get taller the flipped portion gets taller. This translates to the bottom portions of all the fins being identical (except for the more vertical split keel versions) in height and shape.

Currently, these fins are only available as custom fins and initially will also only be available made out of our thicker 3/8" fiberglass panels. These thicker panels allow us to create much more efficient foils that do not have any flat spots. Unfortunately, one downside to the use of these thicker panels is that the fins are more expensive due to the higher material cost.

For now there are a large number of potential combinations that can be created with all of these templates. Therefore we have only showcased the combos that have been thoroughly tested to date.

All of the combos shown here are what we are now referring to as "reverse quad" setups where the smaller fin is placed in front of the larger fin.

NRG Series

The NRG series is one of our designs that have been around for awhile now but has not yet been put into production. It represents a broad range of designs, including a small trailer fin.

These fins have been popular with a lot of people despite only being available as customs.

The primary goal behind this design is a fin with a larger tip area for increased drive and holding power. Coupled with a narrow base for increased turning performance. The center (CTR) fin has a slightly shallower blade than the other templates for more looseness.

The series starts with a large area fin (NRG-525) designed to be utilized as a twin fin. The NRG-500 and NRG-S for the quad combo for this design. There is also a dedicated center fin and a small center trailing fin.

A canard template has also been added to the mix to be utilized with the 525 in a twinzer setup, or as a small side bite set.

All of the designs in this series feature strong hollow foils on the inside faces. Additionally, these inner foils are spiraled for better water ejection.

Eventually this design will make it into production utilizing our HRD-KORE construction, if the demand increases. For now these are only available as custom fins.

XLR8 Series

This is another new design!

We had been working on the design for a downwind racing SUP fin and really liked the look of the final outline and decided that we should look into using it for a regular fin design, and here we are.

This design is almost a mashup of the Q3 and DV8 templates for the side fins, but the idea did not start from that concept.

So the obvious questions are why this shape and how will it differ from some of the other new designs.

  1. Increased sweep and area in the body of the fin improves stability and projection while increasing drive and power. The increase in sweep also adds just a little more directionality to the design.
  2. More upright and longer FLIP TIP will help the fin pivot late into a turn, the angle of the flip has also been increased in this design, with the aim of improving the performance through the late part of the turn. See attached photo showing flip angle. Due to the shape of the fin the flips now also have a more curved transition from the body into the tip.
  3. PHAT FOILS throughout for the design in order to maximize the performance of the foils.
  4. HOLLOW FOILS on the inside face as with most of our fins these days, enhances performance as well as reduces weight for a solid fiberglass fin. The hollow foil transitions from the body into the FLIP TIP.

There are four distinct templates within this range of fins, the general design (back fin in photo) features 38º of sweep. This provides a better balance between projection and pivot, with the following sizes featuring this sweep angle - 4.50", 4.75", 5.00", 5.25", and 5.50". These templates are intended to be used as back fins in reverse quad setups, or front fins in regular quad setups, as well as side fins for thrusters.

The next distinct template features a 44º sweep angle and is made up of two sizes - 4.00" and 4.25". These are intended to be used as front fins in a reverse quad or back fins in a regular quad, although they are primarily intended for reverse quads. By increasing the sweep angle we get improved stability and even more projection, but due to the FLIP TIP, without sacrificing pivot in the turn.

We have also added a distinct back fin for quad setups that is a little squatter than the other designs 4.125" in height. Still has the same 38º sweep as the main fins but a little more upright on the trailing edge, and a little broader so more area. Also designed to serve as a side bite in a 2PLUS1 setup.

Finally, there is a unique center fin template that is a little taller than our normal thruster center fins at 4.75". The increased height was chosen due to the reduced area of the fin created by the narrower tip. This center fin also utilizes the 38º sweep angle of the general side fin designs.

All of the fins in this range feature our PHAT FOILS!

NOTE: not all of the fins in this range are presented here, but these are the most commonly used ones. We will add the other designs as we bring them up to speed.
